Business Development Representative, Emphasys HFA

About the role

Who we are At Aquila, we invest in category-defining B2B/B2G software companies globally, acting as a thought-partner, striving for the success of our companies in the long term. We are a well-managed, profitable company that operates like a startup with the financial backing of a parent company. For our people, this means limitless possibilities. We are unapologetically unique, pivoting to respond to the needs of the multiple markets we operate in. We have ambitious goals, and we are looking for genuine contributors with integrity, energy, flexibility, and loyalty. We are investing in building future leaders who can take an idea and make things happen. At Emphasys HFA (Housing Finance Agency), a division of Emphasys, we build and support the only end-to-end financial software in the U.S. dedicated to affordable housing. As the largest full-service provider in this space, we enable State Housing Finance Agencies and other public organizations to administer programs that help families access affordable homeownership or rental housing. Our solutions power the financial backbone that processes funding, manages compliance, and ensures every dollar of support is tracked and maximized. Who we need Reporting to the Strategic Account Executive, we are hiring a Business Development Representative to support Emphasys HFA's growth and expand the capacity of our sales function. As our new Business Development Representative, you will combine targeted business development with hands-on support across RFPs, contracts, customer opportunities, and the early stages of the sales process. You will research the HFA market, identify new contacts and opportunities across existing and prospective accounts, coordinate information across Product, Client Services, Marketing, and other teams, and help move opportunities forward. Over time, as you build your knowledge and confidence, you will have the opportunity to take ownership of smaller product sales opportunities from initial conversation through close. This is a full-time, remote role based in the United States. Eastern or Central Time zones are preferred. What’s in it for you Purpose and impact. You will represent technology that supports Housing Finance Agencies and public organizations delivering affordable homeownership and rental housing programs. Your work will help connect these organizations with the software they rely on to manage the financial and operational backbone of their programs, giving you a clear connection between the relationships you build, the solutions you introduce, and the communities those organizations serve. A foundation for a long-term sales career. You will gain experience well beyond prospecting, working alongside experienced Sales, Marketing, Client Services, and Product teams and gaining exposure to customer relationships, RFPs, contracts, cross-sell opportunities, and the full sales cycle. As you build your knowledge and demonstrate your ability to manage opportunities, you will have the opportunity to take ownership of smaller product sales from start to close and continue expanding your responsibilities. As part of Constellation Software, you will also be joining a broader organization with opportunities to grow your career over time. Specialized expertise in an evolving technology market. Emphasys has an established presence in a highly specialized market, with relationships across Housing Finance Agencies and multiple solutions that create opportunities to deepen and expand customer partnerships. You will build valuable expertise in affordable housing technology and public-sector sales while working for a business that is becoming increasingly AI-forward, giving you the opportunity to use modern tools in your research and sales work and learn how emerging technology can support customers and shape the market. How you will make an impact Create new opportunities. You will research the HFA market, identify prospective contacts and untapped opportunities, and use targeted outreach to create meaningful conversations. You will also work with existing customer relationships to identify opportunities to introduce additional Emphasys HFA products to teams and departments that may not currently use them. Move opportunities forward. You will qualify interest, understand customer needs, identify the right stakeholders, and connect opportunities with the Strategic Account Executive when they are ready for deeper sales engagement. You will nurture relationships with longer timelines and continue building knowledge until an opportunity is ready to progress. Coordinate RFP responses. You will help identify relevant RFP opportunities and coordinate the information needed to respond. You will work with Product Managers and other internal teams to gather answers, build response matrices, organize documentation, and keep the process moving through detailed and complex government procurement requirements. Support contracts and customer opportunities. You will help organize contract documentation and follow up on items such as insurance certificates and other required materials. You will support the process without owning pricing or final commercial decisions, ensuring the right information is gathered and the opportunity continues moving toward completion. Take ownership of smaller opportunities. As you build your product knowledge and demonstrate your ability to manage the process, you will have the opportunity to take smaller, lower-value product opportunities from initial conversation through close. This will give you hands-on experience managing the full sales cycle and building confidence as a technology sales professional. Bring market insight back to the team. You will listen carefully to prospects and customers, stay curious about changing HFA needs, and share what you are learning with Sales, Marketing, Product, and Client Services. Your observations will help the team understand where opportunities exist and how Emphasys can better engage the market. Use technology to work smarter. You will use CRM, LinkedIn, sales and research tools, and AI-enabled technology to research accounts, organize information, prepare outreach, and work more efficiently. You will look for practical ways technology can improve your approach to business development. You bring The sales foundation. You have experience in business development, sales development, lead generation, inside sales, account development, or a related customer-facing role. You may also be earlier in your sales career with other professional experience that demonstrates your interest in building a career in technology sales. The curiosity and critical thinking. You ask thoughtful questions, listen carefully, and genuinely want to understand how a customer operates before deciding how to engage them. You can look at a complex situation, identify what needs to happen next, and work through the steps rather than stopping at the first obstacle. The drive. You are comfortable creating opportunities rather than waiting for them to appear. You can handle unanswered outreach and rejection without losing momentum, while staying persistent, professional, and thoughtful in your follow-up. The organization. You can manage multiple opportunities, follow up with different stakeholders, keep documentation accurate, and stay on top of details. You are comfortable coordinating information across teams and know that moving an opportunity forward often requires persistence and follow-through. The communication and collaboration. You can build rapport with different types of stakeholders and communicate clearly in writing and conversation. You enjoy working with Product, Client Services, Marketing, and Sales rather than operating independently, and you know how to seek out the right person when you need information or support. The technology mindset. You are comfortable learning new technology and interested in using AI and digital tools to improve how you research, communicate, and work. Experience with CRM, LinkedIn, sales engagement platforms, or software sales is an asset. The market knowledge.
